Planning and re-checking your journey

Journey planners

We have updated journey planners (including nationalrail.co.uk) to reflect the timetable we plan to operate. Details of the date that these changes are shown in journey planners is available here.

Information on upcoming engineering work is available here. These alterations may be added to journey planners later (where this is the case, it is noted in the individual engineering work entries).

Online timetables

Online timetables are available below. Please note that these timetables do not reflect:

  • Weekend and overnight alterations made owing to engineering work
  • Any alterations due to on-the-day disruption

Whichever way you plan your journey, please remember to re-check your journey using the journey planner before you travel for on-the-day alterations.

Finding a quieter train

Where possible, you are advised to travel at less busy times. Information on how busy we expect trains to be, updated on a daily basis, is available in our on-line timetables and live departures. More information on this is available here.

Summary of the service we plan to operate

From Sunday 15 May

Our new timetable is now in operation. Journey planners have been updated to show the services we plan to operate, and you should check your journey for changes. A summary of key changes is available below.

More information on the background to these changes is available on the Latest on our rail service page. The key timetable changes are as follows:

Mondays to Fridays

Stevenage (via Hertford North) and Welwyn Garden City to Moorgate

Additional peak hour services will operate on these routes.

Mondays to Fridays

London King’s Cross to Cambridge – stopping service via Potters Bar

Two trains per hour will run between London King’s Cross and Cambridge. This increases the service at Meldreth, Foxton and Shepreth from one to two trains per hour and provides additional services between Royston and Cambridge. Sevenoaks to Welwyn Garden City

Welwyn Garden City to Sevenoaks

Two peak services per hour will run between Welwyn Garden City and Sevenoaks. This will provide additional services at Hatfield, Potters Bar, New Barnet, Oakleigh Park, New Southgate, Finsbury Park and introduce a new direct service on this route.

At other times, Sevenoaks services will continue to operate to/from London Blackfriars.

Orpington to Luton

Direct services between Orpington and Luton via Catford will be reintroduced at peak times, two times per hour.

Sutton to St Albans

Two trains per hour will run between Sutton and St Albans via Wimbledon and two trains per hour via Mitcham Junction.

Luton to Rainham

Two trains per hour will operate between Luton and Rainham.

East Grinstead to Bedford

Services have been reintroduced on this route and will run as follows:

  • 05:55 St Pancras International to East Grinstead
  • 07:15 East Grinstead to Bedford
  • 17:17 Leagrave to East Grinstead (departing London Bridge at 18:10)
  • 19:17 East Grinstead to West Hampstead Thameslink

Littlehampton to Bedford

Services have been reintroduced on this route and will run as follows:

  • 05:52 Littlehampton to Bedford
  • 15:43 Bedford to Littlehampton (departing London Bridge at 16:54)

Bedford to Three Bridges

Additional services will operate at peak times.

Mondays to Fridays

Brighton to Hastings

Additional services will run to provide a two trains per hour at busy times.

Brighton to Portsmouth and Southampton

Direct services will resume between Brighton and Portsmouth / Southampton.

Beckenham Junction / Crystal Palace to London Bridge via Tulse Hill

Services will be reintroduced to provide two trains per hour at busy times, with an hourly service at other times.

Watford Junction to Clapham Junction

An hourly service will run between Watford Junction and Clapham Junction. Customers for stations between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes Central should change at Watford Junction for London Northwestern Railway services. Two Southern services per day will continue to operate to/from Hemel Hempstead. There will also be two trains a day to and from Selhurst.

Saturdays

Watford Junction to Clapham Junction

An hourly service will run between Watford Junction and Clapham Junction. Customers for stations between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes Central should change at Watford Junction for London Northwestern Railway services. London Victoria to London Bridge via Crystal Palace

Direct services between London Bridge and London Victoria will not run.

Sutton to London Victoria via West Croydon and Norbury

Services will be reduced from four to two trains per hour in each direction. The number of carriages on some trains will be increased.

West Worthing to Brighton

West Worthing to Brighton services will not run. Customers should use Brighton to Portsmouth / Southampton services, or Littlehampton to London Victoria services changing at Hove.

Lewes to Brighton

Lewes to Brighton services will not run. Customers should use Hastings to Brighton or Seaford to Brighton services.

How do I find out about engineering works?

Always check your journey before you travel, as there may be changes to services due to engineering work and any local disruption on the day. Online journey planners may only be updated with works close to when they are due to happen.

In order to keep you informed we will continue to advise you when engineering work alterations have been updated. As soon as the information is available, details of work taking place will be advertised on our engineering work page here. Information on when online journey planners are currently correct up to is available here.

Ticket information

For details of the availability of advance fares, please visit the advance ticket availability information here. If your pre-booked journey is changed, for example the time is amended, then you can either continue to travel on the revised timetable or apply for a refund.
