Plan ahead if travelling in August
Saturday 26 August to Sunday 3 September 2017
While major route upgrade work takes place at London Bridge as part of the Thameslink programme, there will be no Southeastern service at London Bridge, Waterloo East or Charing Cross between Saturday 26 August and Saturday 2 September inclusive. This will increase passenger numbers on some Southern and Thameslink routes. Additionally there will be significant work taking place at London Bridge leading to changes at the station between Saturday 26 August and Sunday 3 September inclusive.
Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August: Reduced Southern service at London Bridge
Work taking place at London Bridge on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August will reduce the number of platforms available and Southern services will be altered. More information is available here . Thameslink services will operate normally. Southern and Thameslink trains will serve London Bridge on Bank Holiday Monday 28 August, but to an amended Bank Holiday schedule.
Monday 28 August and Sunday 3 September: No changes to Southern or Thameslink services, but services may be busier
Southern and Thameslink services will operate normally on these dates (including all working days), however the changes to Southeastern services will mean that services will be much busier than normal, particularly on the following routes:
- Thameslink services between Sevenoaks/Orpington and London Blackfriars
- Southern services between Peckham Rye and London Bridge
- Southern services between East Croydon and London Bridge
The following stations are expected to be particularly busy:
- London Blackfriars
- Elephant & Castle
- Peckham Rye
- London Bridge
- Herne Hill
- New Cross Gate
If you travel on these routes, you are advised to avoid travelling at peak time, work at home (if possible), to allow extra time for your journey or to use alternative routes where available. Visit the Thameslink Programme website for station-by-station info.
Work taking place at London Bridge station – allow more time to get to/from your train
From Saturday 26 August to Sunday 3 September, upgrade work will also be taking place at London Bridge station itself. Certain areas of the station will be closed so you may have to change your walking route through the station, so please allow extra time. Step free routes may also be different. Alternative routes will be signed and extra staff will be available to assist you. Access routes to the ticket office and to station toilets will be much longer than normal, so please buy your ticket in advance at other locations if possible. Ticket machines are available at the station front, but these may be very busy.
No Southeastern services calling at London Bridge
From Saturday 26 August to Saturday 2 September, there will be no Southeastern services calling at London Bridge, Waterloo East or Charing Cross. If you wish to interchange with Southeastern services, you will have to do so at another location. Please visit nationalrail.co.uk and use the journey planner for details of your revised journey. Major work at London Waterloo on all days between 4 and 28 August
Southern and Thameslink services are expected to be much busier and you should avoid interchanging at Clapham Junction between these dates. More information is available here.
