Revised timetable in place until further notice

From Monday 7 September 2020, there will be some changes to the timetable to support the start of the academic year, as we welcome more people back on our services.

What services are not operating?

The timetable has been designed to be as resilient as possible at a time when our staff are impacted by coronavirus, and to support the platform upgrades underway at Gatwick Airport railway station. Please note:

  • No Gatwick Express trains will operate, please use Southern and Thameslink services between London and Gatwick Airport which operate up to 16 times per hour
  • Southern services will not operate to/from Guildford, please use South Western Railway services

What changes will I see from 7 September?

Additional peak time services will run on the following routes:

  • Cambridge to London King’s Cross
  • Cambridge to Ely
  • Cambridge to King’s Lynn

There will be either additional or amended peak time services on the following routes:

  • London Victoria to South Croydon / East Grinstead
  • Uckfield to London Bridge
  • London Victoria to Gatwick Airport
  • Epsom Downs to London Victoria
  • Littlehampton to London Victoria
  • Redhill to Tonbridge
  • Littlehampton to Chichester / Portsmouth & Southsea
  • Horsham to Bognor Regis / Portsmouth & Southsea
  • Brighton to Portsmouth & Southsea
  • Eastbourne to Ashford International

Some services to/from London Bridge and Eastbourne via Lewes / Chichester via Horsham will continue to be served by red Gatwick Express branded trains, to enable Southern services to be made longer elsewhere on the network. Do check before you board as these may not stop at Gatwick Airport.

How do I plan a specific journey?

Due to Coronavirus, planning engineering work is harder than usual. This means online journey planners may only be updated at short notice.

Travelling on dates up to and including Saturday 12 December 2020

To help you plan, timetables are available at the links below. Please note: these will not reflect any changes due to engineering work. We strongly advise that you re-check your journey closer to your date of travel. Information on when online journey planners are currently correct up to are available here.

Travelling on dates including and from Sunday 13 December 2020

Our new timetable comes into operation on Sunday 13 December. Timetables for dates after 13 December are expected to be uploaded to online journey planners around Friday 16 October. These timetables will not include alterations relating to planned engineering work until closer to the date of operation.

In order to keep you informed we will continue to advise you here when engineering work alterations have been updated. As soon as the information is available, details of work taking place will be advertised on our engineering work page here. Information on when online journey planners are currently correct up to are available here.

Availability of advance fares

For details of the availability of advance fares, please visit the advance ticket availability information here. If your pre-booked journey is changed, for example the time is amended, then you can either continue to travel on the revised timetable or apply for a refund.
