How do I book a train ticket for Luton Airport?

You can buy tickets in all the normal ways; at the station using the ticket machines or ticket office, using a contactless card (from stations where this is available) or Key Smartcard. We recommend buying your tickets online in advance, however. This way you can:

  • Skip any queues any fly through the station with an e-ticket
  • Save money with no booking fees when you book direct with us

Please note, you will need to buy a “through-ticket” to Luton Airport, to get all the way to the terminal. This will include your train ticket to Luton Airport Parkway and transfer to the terminal on the Luton DART (Direct Air-Rail Transit).

What is the Luton DART?

Launched on March 27th 2023, the Luton DART is a pioneering infrastructure project by Luton Rising and Luton Council, providing a faster, more convenient transfer from Luton Airport Parkway to Luton Airport in just under 4 minutes. The DART runs 24-7 with up to 14 journeys an hour at peak times. It is fully accessible with step-free access and seamless assistance if required from train to terminal.

The DART is owned and operated by Luton Rising. Ticket prices for the DART are set by Luton Rising, but you can purchase a ticket through Thameslink, by choosing a through-ticket to Luton Airport.

What is the best value ticket for travelling to Luton Airport on Thameslink?

As with all rail fares, prices will vary depending on where you are travelling from, the number of people travelling and the day or time of day you want to travel. All through-tickets to the airport include a DART ticket priced at £4.90 each way.

  • As a solo traveller, contactless card is often the cheapest way to travel to Luton Airport from central London, starting at £16.10 for an Off-Peak single and £20.10 during peak hours
  • If you are eligible for a railcard or are travelling with a group or children, it may be cheaper to buy an open return ticket. You can get up to 34% off by travelling as a group or using a railcard and remember children under 5 travel free and kids aged 5-15 travel for £2
  • If you are travelling from south of Gatwick Airport, you might be able to secure a hefty discount by getting an Advance fare. Brighton to Luton Airport Parkway Advance fares start from only £17.80
