Bedford car park

Reduction in available spaces 21 October - 22 December 2019

Bedford car park reduction

For up to nine weeks from 21 October 2019, Bedford station will lose up to half of the spaces in its main car park, although this number will reduce to about a fifth for around six weeks.

Network Rail needs the area to demolish and rebuild nearby Bromham Road bridge as part of its programme to electrify and upgrade the Midland Mainline north of Bedford, giving passengers better services.

The space will be used by a large crane and includes access to the worksite.

You can read more here about the Midland Mainline Improvement Programme and Bromham Road Bridge Project.

Your options

Car park season tickets offer a significant discount on daily parking, so we will continue to make these available.

However, the busy main car park at Bedford, where spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis, is normally full by 8am. The temporary closure will make it much harder to find a space.

Customers may wish to try the following alternatives:

  • Bedford car park season ticket holders will be able to use their permits at all north Thameslink and Great Northern managed stations, some of which are highlighted below:
    • St Neots* (450 spaces - normally has spaces available)
    • Biggleswade* (230 spaces - normally has some spaces available)
    • Harlington (109 spaces - normally fills up)
    • Flitwick (193 spaces - normally fills up)
    • Sandy* (133 spaces - normally fills up)
    • Arlesey** (90 spaces - normally fills up)

Spaces are at a first-come first-served basis and at Thameslink and Great Northern station car parks only.

      * Bedford rail tickets will be accepted on Great Northern / Thameslink services from these stations into London. Barriers may not accept tickets, please see a member of staff to allow you through the gate line.
** Please note, the car park on the north side of Arlesey station is run by another company and our car park season tickets cannot be used there.

  • Bedford car park season ticket holders will be able to use the premium car parks at Bedford and Flitwick stations (excluding numbered premier bays)

  • Search Parkopedia.com for other local car parks available.

  • Consider cycling. We have bike racks at the station with a free tool station and bike pump; plan your journey at google.co.uk/maps/
