Luton Airport Parkway railway station is preparing for the 2021 arrival of the £225m, Direct Air-Rail Transit (DART) system which will cut the journey from station to airport to under four minutes.
Network Rail is working to prepare Luton Airport Parkway for the 2021 arrival of DART.
DART is a transit system formed of two automated shuttles, which will cut the 2.1km journey between airport and railway station to under 4 minutes.
It's all part of a strategy to switch airport traffic from road to rail, and together with Thameslink train services, means a step-change in how passengers access the airport, with fast, easy access between railway station and airport station. You can find out more about DART at: https://dart.llal.org.uk/
New lifts, escalators and an upgraded station
DART also brings a major upgrade for Luton Airport Parkway that will transform the station.
The DART team is building a dedicated terminal building next to the station, and this will be connected directly to platforms with a brand-new footbridge, two new lifts and three new escalators on the platform with more within the terminal building itself. This means improved step-free access to all platforms, benefitting every station user.
Works are underway, with the DART upgrade to complete in 2021.
