Super Off-Peaking in... Brighton
Go Super Off-Peaking in Brighton this weekend
We do like to be beside the seaside and that’s just one of the many reasons why Brighton is one of our absolute favourite places to enjoy a day out!
This beautiful seaside location offers a great array of wonderful things to do whether you are looking for something traditional or you feel like throwing caution to the wind and exploring some of Brighton’s lesser known secrets… we’ve rounded up a list of just a few of the amazing ways to spend a day in beautiful Brighton:
Brighton boasts a fantastic selection of breakfast and brunch options for you to get your day off to the right start. Pay a visit to the New Club and partake of their divine cinnamon buttermilk pancakes, you won’t regret it! If you are rocking a bit of a sore head then Little Miss Piggies have got the hangover cure for you. They will serve up an almighty full English breakfast with a healthy dollop of sympathy! Or if your breakfast craving is hitting you at 2pm then head to Billies Café where they will oblige you with their hearty all day breakfast! Nom!
After breakfast head to the SeaLife Centre where you can come face to face with a host of underwater creatures. If you are feeling fancy, get involved with their interactive rock pools. You can get your hands on their crabs for less when you grab 2FOR1 entry when you go by train (download your voucher here). If the aquarium isn’t your thing then why not make a beeline for the world famous Brighton Pier? As well as some pretty awesome views, the pier boats a fantastic penny slot arcade, games, restaurants, cafés and bars. You can even hire a deck chair and watch the world go by from your slightly low vantage point!
Time to refuel and grab some lunch. Doubtless being by the seaside will give you a hankering for fish and chips and if you’ve spent the morning enjoying the pier you should head to Palm Court where you can enjoy 2FOR1 on a slap up lunch! (download your voucher here). For those craving something beyond the traditional, check out the culinary stylings of the awesome Eatalio’s Italian street food or grab yourself a killer toasty from Presuming Ed. Or If you are looking for something sweet then check out the extraordinary eclectic ChoccyWoccyDooDah, boasting an incredible and varied range of cake, these folks will have you welcoming that sugar rush with open arms.
After lunch is the perfect time to head to the world famous Lanes. Crammed with the weird and wonderful, the Lanes offer an amazing array of choice for those in need of some retail therapy. We recommend a visit to Beyond Retro where you can browse your way around some pre-loved vintage classics. Don’t be shy, if shopping isn’t for you Brighton still has plenty to offer! What about an anti-art class at Dr Sketchy, a trip on the Brighton Wheel or a stroll along Brighton’s beautiful, but very pebbly, beach?
Brighton is a real show off when it comes to amazing dinner venues and with good reason. Don’t be deterred by the Mexican wrestling masks, death heads and gaudy floral upholstery, a Bang Bang Burrito at La Choza is a must for any visit to Brighton! Enjoy some American style burgers at MeatLiquor or grab some authentic arancini at Mediterraneo.
After dinner head to the Shuffle Bar and partake in some of their infamous cocktails. You can play DJ when you control the tunes from your phone, funky disco anyone?
Brighton is packed to the rafters with great ways to spend your evening! Pay a visit to Proud Cabaret for a racy night of Burlesque or dust off your dancing shoes and boogie into the small hours with a night at Green Door Store situated under the Station. Their new 90’s club night BOSSY will have you throwing your hands in the air like you just don’t care!
With Brighton Fringe, England’s biggest arts festival, running across the city throughout the month (6 May – 5 June), there is no better place to be. Bliss out on stand-up and cabaret, let loose with nightlife and burlesque - it’s all there by the bucketful, along with wild and bizarre pop-ups around every corner.
Start early with free comedy in some of Brighton’s favourite boozers courtesy of Laughing Horse, or drop into Presuming Ed’s coffee house to join Doris La Trine and Lotta Quizeen on their first day out of rehab.
Afterwards, swing by Fringe City for street performance in the heart of Brighton’s North Laine then onto massive outdoor venue The Warren for drinks and bites and a choice of theatre, comedy, cabaret and dance across four different stages.
Pre-clubbing to round off the day? Try something a little different – Bogan Bingo at the Komedia, two trailer-trash bingo callers, with a passion for 80s and 90s anthems.
If you’re there towards the end of May, check out the first ever Fringe All-Nighter (27 May), an evening of shows and surprise performances running all the way to 10.30am.
